Registration for young voters

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has invited the youth to participate in the National Youth Commission’s campaign for registration of young voters.

DSWD-7 has lined up series of advocacy efforts to encourage the youth to register from hanging of streamers to sending of letters to local government units, radio and TV guestings, as well as orientations and briefings.

So far 50 youths from the provinces of Bohol and Cebu have initially registered for this month. Some youths who are members of their Pag-Asa Youth Chapters were also hired by the DSWD for the implementation of the Youth National Service (YNS) program.

The DSWD hired mostly those who are unemployed and underemployed skilled youths and college graduates who are 18 to 24 years old.

These youths are assigned to different centers and institutions operated by DSWD-7. They would work for at least eight hours a day, five days a week and are receiving P250 a day.- THE FREEMAN
