CEBU, Philippines - Even if he voted for Secretary Gilbert Teodoro to become the standard bearer of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party for the 2010 presidential elections, 1st district Rep. Eduardo Gullas said he cannot assure him of his support in Cebu.
Gullas said that his being a member of the administration party is not a guarantee that Teodoro will also be his presidential candidate.
“I would be lying if I tell you now,” Gullas said in answer to the question whether Teodoro will be the presidential candidate that he will be supporting.
Gullas added that he will be dependent on his regional Alayon Party.
Gullas, however, said that he voted for Teodoro over Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Bayani Fernando during the party selection of who will be their official candidate.
Gullas explained that he signed a manifesto of support for Teodoro to be chosen by the party leadership because of his capability. Aside from it Teodoro was also a colleague of his at the House of Representatives for nine years.
“I know his capabilities, he is very dynamic and brilliant,” Gullas added.
In local politics, Gullas reaffirmed his support for Governor Gwendolyn Garcia in the 2010 elections. He made this affirmation amidst talks that his group and that of Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano are constantly meeting to discuss the possibility of the latter running for governor against Garcia.
Gullas said he does not see any reason to withdraw his support for Garcia and that Durano also told him that he is not running for governor. When asked of the possibility that he himself will run for governor, Gullas said he still has one more term as congressman representing the 1st district. — Fred P. Languido/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
