Man charged for shabu possession

CEBU, Philippines - A man was charged before the regional trial court for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Anti-Dangerous Drugs Act after he was arrested for possession of illegal drugs last week.

Benjie Cansancio was arrested for a packet of shabu worth P200 by policemen who were conducting a mobile patrol last September 8.

PO3 Fortunato Macaranas, PO3 Celerino Belleta and PO2 Robert John De Castro, in a joint affidavit, said that at around 12:35 a.m., while they were roving in the outskirts of Barangay Quiot, the spotted Cansancio walking and holding a plastic packet of shabu.

Macaranas said they saw the accused still examining the packet of white crystalline substance which later turned out to be shabu. The police officer then approached the latter and confiscated the illegal drug which he kept in his right palm.

Cansancio was then brought to the police station for detention and was charged for possession of illegal drugs.

The court has recommended a bail of P200,000 for the accused temporary liberty. — Jasmin R. Uy/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
