Bar owner shoots customer dead

CEBU, Philippines - A 52-year-old man died on the spot after he was shot by the owner of the videoke bar in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City where he was drinking with his friends yesterday afternoon.

The fatality was identified as Edward Cabigin Godinez, married, a resident of the area, and caretaker of Island Venture, a leisure park located in Marigondon in Mactan.

SPO3 Rex Ibañez of the Lapu-Lapu Police homicide section said that while they were about to respond to the shooting alarm, the owner of the videoke bar, Nelson Dagangon, 36, arrived at the police station and confessed to shooting Godinez.

Ibañez told DYSS Super Radyo that Godinez and Dagangon had a heated argument for the past few days, which started when Dagangon allegedly accused Godinez of going berserk each time he comes to his videoke bar that oftentimes drove his customers away.

Yesterday, Dagangon said Godinez again allegedly went berserk while drinking at his bar, which prompted him to pull out his .38 caliber revolver and shoot the victim, hitting him on the back of his head.

Personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation declared Godinez dead.

Ibañez said formal charges will be filed against Dagangon on Tuesday yet, as it is a holiday today. —Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
