CCPO chief takes to streets in "direct approach" to crime

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador himself led a foot patrol yesterday, joining 500 to 600 other policemen and policewomen who took to the streets in different parts of the city as their way of celebrating National Crime Prevention Week.

The CCPO personnel were divided into three groups. One started from Camp Sotero Cabahug along Gorordo Ave. and the other two from the Landbank of the Philippines along P. del Rosario St., and Metro Gaisano along Colon St. The units then conducted beat patrols in areas identified as prone to petty theft.

Comendador said that instead of the usual caravans, advocacies, and the like that are held during the celebration, they will carry out the celebration through a “direct approach” or by preventing the crime itself through the massive deployment of police beat patrols.

The abovementioned figure includes the over 50 police trainees taking their Field Training Program deployed in Colon St. last July, known as the Task Force Colon with Comendador himself as the task force commander. — Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
