Former BIN member faces murder rap

CEBU, Philippines - A former member of the Barangay Intelligence Network has been charged with murder yesterday for allegedly killing a suspected thief in barangay Buhisan July last year.

Eleuterio “Terey” Bajenting was accused of killing a certain Jade Ypilan, 25, last July 4, 2008.

Bajenting was tagged as the assailant who shot Ypilan point blank in the back while the victim was drinking with friends.

Ypilan’s neighbor Romeo Ponce told police that the incident occurred at 7:10 p.m. that day.

Ponce and Ypilan were sitting on a bench when Bajenting reportedly approached from behind and shot him once.  Ypilan was killed instantly and collapsed face-first into the bench he was sitting on.

Police are still verifying reports that Ypilan was a burglar.

One spent shell from a .45 cal. pistol was found in the area.

A subpoena has been sent to Bajenting for his counter-affidavit but no reply was made, thus the filing of the case. — Jasmin R. Uy/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
