Carmen police chief sues own men for infidelity, negligence

CEBU, Philippines - Insp. Carlos Reyes Jr., chief of the Carmen Police Station, filed administrative and criminal cases yesterday against his very own men for the escape of five inmates last month.

He filed serious neglect of duty as administrative case and infidelity in the custody of prisoners as criminal case against SPO1 Gil Jabonero, PO2 Dario Baguio, PO1 Romano Morales, SPO2 Simplicio Gibo, and PO1 Ceilito Suerte.

Four of the five inmates were already recaptured.

Jeffrey Jagdon, convicted for robbery, allegedly led fellow inmates Christopher Berot and Marcelito Pisao, both charged for robbery; Rannie Manulat for illegal possession of firearms; and a 16-year-old boy who was charged for rape, in bolting out of the detention cell last month.

This after the said police officers went out of the station to receive their awards for a series of accomplishments in their area such as in the arrest of suspected offenders.

After learning of the jailbreak, Cebu Provincial Police Office director Jesus Gaquing requested the Police Regional Office-7 to hold in abeyance the giving of the awards.

A manhunt operation launched immediately after the incident led to the recapture of four inmates in Danao City.

Further, it was learned that Suerte was relieved from office but assigned currently in Pilar town, Camotes Island.

The escape was the second incident since Gaquing assumed office in June. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV    (THE FREEMAN)
