65th case filed against Sulpicio Lines

CEBU, Philippines - The wife of a passenger of the ill-fated M/V Princess of the Stars has sued Sulpicio Lines, Inc. with P4.202 million worth of damages, bringing to 65 the number of cases against the shipping company in relation to the June 21 sinking.

Marivic Saban,wife of Pio Saban of Barili town filed the charges against the SLI for the death of her husband who perished in the tragedy.

Saban has asked P3.402 million in actual and compensatory damages and P800,000 in moral and exemplary damages. She is also asking 20 percent worth of attorneys fees.

Saban said that her husband Pio was in Manila as driver of the truck conveying the cargoes for Norkis Corporation when the ship sank off Sibuyan Island on its way to Cebu.

The complainant said she was still able to speak with her late husband before the ship sank.
