Buyer of "stolen goods" from hotel faces charges

CEBU, Philippines - The Castle Peak Hotel has filed charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1612 or the Anti-Fencing law against a woman who allegedly buying goods stolen from hotel last year.

The management of the hotel discovered that the respondent, Arlene Catamura, was buying goods being stolen from the establishment by one of the hotel’s employees, Felix Paypa Jr., who was caught on the act of stealing the items.

The hotel’s consultant, Arlene Soroño, said the stolen goods amounted to P525,455.

The driver who was with Paypa in delivering the items said the sale happened at a restaurant in the city.

Randy Ramas, the owner of the van, said he did not know that Paypa was delivering stolen goods because Paypa reportedly introduced himself as a friend of the hotel owner. The van was reportedly loaded with the goods.

Paypa reportedly hired the van several times from October to November 2008. — Jasmin R. Uy/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
