UV signs MOAs for Nursing review, Orthodontics seminar

CEBU, Philippines – The University of the Visayas yesterday entered into two memoranda of agreement, one of which was with the Center for Orthodontic Training Seminar, and the other with the Professional Review Network for preparing Nursing students for the board exams.

Both MOAs are intended to enhance UV’s capacity in providing excellent education for students in medical courses.

The first MOA, between UV and COTS is for the conduct of postgraduate trainings in Orthodontics with temporomandibular disease (TMD), Orofacial Pain, Periodontics and Endodontics.

The trainings will be held at the UV Gullas College of Dentistry at the Gullas Medical Center in Banilad from July 27 to August next year.

UV has also entered into a MOA with PRN for the in-house review of the students to prepare them for the 2010 Nursing Licensure Exams.

Both of the MOAs were signed by UV Executive Vice President Jose “Dodong” Gullas and the officials of the institutions.

PRN president and chief executive officer Alex Tanwangco said that they have produced topnotchers in their review center from the schools that they handled.

Tanwangco said the schools handled by PRN are the Arellano University in Manila, University of St. La Salle in Bacolod, Dipolog Medical Center and the Divine Word.

He said Millennium PRN is different from other review centers because its pool of competent lecturers come from top universities in the country. The company also has 20 professors in various paramedical fields.

Tanwangco said Millennium PRN reviewers get an average of 70- to 90-percent passing rate in the national board exams, which is higher than the 50-percent passing rate requirement.

Review classes at Millenium PRN costs about P10,000 to P15,000 per student. — Jasmin R. Uy/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
