Monilar is new G'lupe police chief

CEBU, Philippines - Starting today, outgoing chief of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, Insp. Mario Monilar serves as new chief of the Guadalupe Police Station 9.

With Monilar leaving the post, Insp. Vicente Velasquez, deputy chief of the Waterfront Police Station 3, sits as the new Homicide Section chief while outgoing Guadalupe Police Station chief, Sr. Insp. Pedro Quevedo will be assigned to the Cebu City Mobile Group.

Cebu City Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador said that before assigning Velasquez to his new post, he was placed under evaluation for over a month. His personal background was checked especially his experience in the field of investigation.

Quevedo, for health reasons, will be on light duty status. He will be assigned in supervising the unit, Comendador said.

The CCPO director said that Monilar was granted with another post for his career development.

He said that being the chief in a police station is a rewarding job and is considered to be the “climax” of a police job.

For his part, Monilar said he is willing to accept the new post. He just has to “wait and see for the challenges.”

Monilar said that with almost 29 years in the police service and 20 years in the homicide section, being in the field of investigation has greatly influenced in setting up his personality.

He said he will be missing his men and the media he claimed to be his partners in being an investigator. To those he has left behind today in the old post, he advised them to continue the good job and live by on the adage, “those who have less in life should have more in law.”

SPO4 Jesus Moga Jr., one of Monilar’s comrades and is also a pioneer at the homicide section, expressed his sadness on Monilar’s transfer but since it is the job that calls for him to be transferred to another unit, he said he is there to continue supporting Monilar.

Moga, who claimed they have gained a lot of knowledge from Monilar especially in the field of investigation, said that he is happy for Monilar as being a station commander is reportedly the chief’s long-time dream. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
