Three charged for stealing Globe cables

CEBU, Philippines – Globe Telecom yesterday filed charges against the three men who stole the company’s cables worth P85,000 in Minglanilla town last June 10.

Charged were Wilson Abalo, Reynan Cabigon and Ricky Yares. Two of them sustained gunshot wounds during the race, which led to their arrest.

The three were arrested after residents of Springwoods Subdivision alerted barangay officials.

Tulay barangay captain Inocentes Secuya said the three tried to escape but residents in the area fired shots at them, which prompted the respondents to surrender.

Recovered from the respondents 64 black plastic insulators for cable wires, burned stranded copper wires, and improvised knives believed to be used in cutting and removing the copper wires from the plastic insulators.

About 50 meters of 400 pairs of cable copper wires that connected the Globe Telecom main line to the gate of Springwoods Subdivision in upper Tulay, Minglanilla were cut off. — Jasmin R. Uy/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
