CEBU, Philippines - A man died while three others were injured in a head on collision of two overspeeding motorcycles past 10 p.m. last Thursday in Barangay Aliwanay, Balamban town.
Arnold Crausos, 24, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Balamban District Hospital because of the fatal injuries in the head while Eduardo Jusay, Jr. and Pablito Armas sustained severe wounds were transferred to a hospital in Cebu City. The fourth victim, Jadel Aligato, 26, who was just walking on the side of the road, only got minor injuries.
PO2 Cesar Climaco of Balamban Police Station said that Crausos was driving a red XRM motorcycle with plate numbers GO 3751 with Armas as his back ride on their way towards Barangay Pondol where they both live when they rammed into the blue XRM motorcycle with plate numbers GG 2037 driven by Jusay who came from Balamban proper and was heading to Toledo City.
Climaco said based on the account of some witnesses, both drivers were overspeeding that resulted to a huge impact that made both vehicles turned around during the collision. The drivers and passenger of the vehicles, whom police believed were not wearing crash helmets, were thrown off about three meters away from the area of collision.
The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital where Crausos was pronounced dead on arrival while Jusay was taken to Cebu Doctor’s Hospital in Cebu City and underwent an operation yesterday for a blood clot in his head. Armas is also recuperating in the hospital after sustaining fractured bones and bruises in the body.
Aligato, who was just walking along the road, was hit by Crausos’ motorcycle on his left foot and sustained a minor wound.
Climaco said they are still thoroughly investigating the case for the possible filing of charges in court after the burial of Crausos. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
