3 men injured in separate incidents

CEBU, Philippines – Three men sustained injuries after figuring in separate incidents the other day.

The first incident happened around 5 pm in sitio Lawis Alaska, Barangay Mambaling wherein a certain Lito Lucido, allegedly drunk, shot his neighbor, Juanito Encierto, several times for no apparent reason.

Investigation showed that Encierto, 39, a part-time garbage collector of barangay Guadalupe and his elder sister Wilma were sitting in front of their house when Lucido appeared and shouted, “Pahawa ra gud diha Nito!” before firing his gun twice.

Encierto, who was hit on his left arm and left side of his body, ran inside the house but Lucido chased him and fired another shot, hitting him on the nape.

Lucido fled the scene, as Encierto was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Police are now conducting a follow-up operation to arrest Lucido and determine the real motive of the crime, considering that the suspect reportedly had a fight with Encierto’s other sibling prior to the shooting.

About six hours after the incident in barangay Mambaling, 32-year-old Henry Midrano was stabbed by his drinking companion Alfredo Gabrillo, 42, at a store in Phase 4 of the Saint Jude Acres in barangay Bulacao.

Investigation showed that Midrano and Gabrillo were drinking with one Eluterio Campus when they engaged in a heated argument over their jobs. To avoid a bigger fight, Gabrillo reportedly walked away with Campus but Midrano followed them and boxed Gabrillo on the face, prompting the latter to retaliate.

Campus tried to pacify the two but Midrano ignored him and instead took a 10-inch long knife and stabbed Gabrillo on his left arm and face.

Gabrillo, however, managed to grab the knife and stabbed Midrano several times on his back.

The two was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center and later agreed on a settlement. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
