CEBU, Philippines - A “masyador” of a cockpit was shot to death by an unknown assailant outside a cockpit in barangay Calajo-an, Minglanilla town, early morning yesterday.
A motorcycle-for-hire driver who was standing near him was also hit.
The fatality was only identified as certain “Ramir”, around 40 years old and a resident of Villa Bulsita, barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.
PO3 Neil Mansueto of the Minglanilla police said that the victim was about to go home from a derby in the said cockpit arena.
As he was about to ride the motorcycle-for-hire driven by a certain Jonathan Cabrera, 20, single, of sitio Pungtod of the same barangay, the unidentified assailant suddenly appeared and shot him five times without any provocation.
Two bullets hit the head of Ramir while Cabrera also hit in the back. Both of them were rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital but Ramir did not make it there alive.
Cabrera was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
However, the policemen who responded to the shooting incident were not able recover any empty shells which made them believe that the assailant used a .38 cal. revolver.
“Si Ramir ra jud ang target sa suspek unya napagan lang na si Jonathan. Sa pagkakaron among gitan-aw nga motibo mao ang karaang panagbangi,” Mansueto said.
Policemen are now looking for the witnesses to come up to their station to help solve this crime.
“Kuyaw sad gud kaayo nang dapita gud nga ngitngit kaayo niya atanganan gyud kaayo ba,” Mansueto added. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
