Driver stabbed after demanding for fare

CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle-for-hire driver landed in the hospital after one of his passengers stabbed him on the neck when he demanded that they pay their fare.

The knife was still stuck on his nape when Julito Medalle, 22, was brought to the Danao District Hospital past midnight yesterday. He was later transferred to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Investigation revealed that three still unidentified men flagged down Medalle’s motorcycle in sitio Ilaya, barangay Cogon Cruz in Danao City past 11pm the other night. The three asked to be brought to barangay Tabuc but when they reached the place, the three reportedly just walked away without paying their fare.

When Medalle demanded that they do so, one of the three reportedly got irked, pulled out the knife and stabbed the victim on the nape.

Residents in the area were the ones who took Medalle to the hospital. Police are now conducting a follow-up operation to identify the assailant and his companion. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
