CEBU, Philippines – The Department of Education has set this year’s Brigada Eskwela or National School Maintenance Week for May 18 to 22, two weeks before the school opening on June 1.
Cebu Province Schools Division superintendent Arden Monisit said that their will be a mandatory participation by all public elementary and secondary schools.
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide schools maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that all public schools are ready in time for school opening.
For this year, Regional Offices of DepEd are enjoined to hold a caravan or motorcade on May 18 to mark the first day of Brigada Eskwela.
DepEd’s Adopt-a-School Program is spearheading Brigada Eskwela which engages the private sector in helping public schools physically prepare for the opening of classes.
Regional and division offices are instructed to synchronize the implementation of the School Based Repair Maintenance Scheme with the Brigada Eskwela program to ensure maximum impact of these two support programs initiated by DepEd.
Under the Brigada Eskuwela program, cash donations are not accepted, however, materials for cleaning, repair and beautification can be contributed. — Johanna T. Natavio/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
