Congressional probe into FLI deal may start August

CEBU, Philippines – The congressional Inquiry sought by Cebu 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia on the Cebu City and Filinvest Land Inc. joint venture deal may start August yet.

Cebu City North District Rep. Raul del Mar said it will probably be after the Lower House resumes from a break that the proposal of Garcia will be entertained.

Del Mar said Congress will go on a break this June and will be back in July which after President Gloria Arroyo delivers her State of the Nation Address.

He said Garcia's proposal was referred by the Committee on Rules to the Committee on Good Government.

He said he made a request that the inquiry be held in Cebu considering that all those affected are in Cebu City.

Garcia sought an inquiry on the joint venture between Cebu City and FLI after finding alleged questionable and disadvantageous provisions he cited in a privilege speech.

Del Mar, being a representative of the city, made his own speech stating the side of Cebu City at the Lower House.

The Province once expressed its intention to submit a competitive challenge against FLI to develop 10.6 hectares of the South Road Properties.

They were however denied twice for lack of jurisdiction considering that only private entities are allowed to participate. – Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
