Police arrest notorious robber victimizing PUJ passengers

CEBU, Philippines - After a long chase around houses yesterday morning, police nabbed a notorious robber who victimized passengers of a jeepney plying the 01K route but the suspect’s companion managed to elude arrest.

Elements of the Mobile Patrol Group and the city police Theft and Robbery Section caught up with Romvic Hermoso who was still bringing the belongings of the jeepney passengers. Hermoso is a resident of Cansojong, Talisay City.

City police director Patrocinio Comendador said Romvic Hermoso has been under close monitoring after he allegedly robbed several jeepneys in the past. Hermoso is allegedly the kind that will not hesitate to “shoot and kill whenever they are in danger.”

Hermoso reportedly admitted using illegal drugs and robbing jeepneys three times a week but denied shooting a barangay tanod during a checkpoint.

However, PO2 Edwin Alvarado of Talisay City Police Station pointed at him as the one who tried to shoot a police officer in Talisay City during a hot pursuit operation.

Hermoso has been imprisoned in Muntinlupa City for a different robbery case.

Police are urging Hermoso’s victims to come forward and file charges against him. Police said Hermoso’s group usually uses the Riverside and Villagonzalo as their getaway place. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
