CEBU, Philippines - Guests who gathered for the fifth day of the “One Visayas” event at the Cebu International Convention Center were yesterday treated to a day full of dances, literature and theatre presentations that depict the true Visayan culture.
A scriptwriting lecture handled by National Commission for Culture and the Arts and a Saludo, a tribute to Jovita Fuentes, a Capiznon national artist for music, have opened yesterday’s activities.
The Teatro Amorseko of Negros Occidental province also entertained the visitors through their presentation of “Poseidon.”
Dr. Virgie Maquiabas amazed the audience during her lecture entitled “Mystical Siquijor,” which was all about the arts of healing and not witchcraft or sorcery, which the Siquijor province is always associated with.
The delegations from Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar provinces also introduced to visitors their unique recipes through a culinary demonstration while Dr. Alicia Magos from Antique province also lectured on the Western Visayas maritime traditions.
Guests, especially budding filmmakers, have very much appreciated the lecture of the NCAA on independent filmmaking.
Natives of Regions 6 and 8 who are working or are already based here in Cebu made it a point to see and be part of the historical event that made them feel like they are just in there hometown.
Outdoor performances showcasing the cultural and ethnic communities in the three Visayan regions capped the day’s activities that converted the CICC into a visual and cultural arts presentation venue. — Johanna Natavio/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
