CEBU, Philippines - At least 251 families whose houses were razed during a fire that hit Alaska, Mambaling the other week received assistance from Cebu City south district Rep. Antonio Cuenco last Saturday.
Cuenco has personally distributed the relief goods and closely looked into the situation of the victims who are currently sheltered at Viking Sports Complex in the barangay.
Each of the indigent families received two kilograms of rice and assorted canned goods from the congressman.
Barangay councilor Wilfredo Go, who accompanied Cuenco during the distribution of the goods, said the barangay had also extended assistance to the affected families six days after the fire gutted down their houses.
Go said the relief goods that they have distributed to the victims will temporarily sustain their basic necessities while they try to start again after losing their homes and personal things in the fire.
The victims are temporarily living in tent houses inside the sports complex for the meantime.
According to Go, Cuenco will donate more relief goods anytime soon, adding the congressman will just notify the barangay officials when they will be distributed. — Bentley Naire Luyong, CIT MassCom Intern/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
