Cebu - A 50-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man died in two separate suicide incidents in Cebu City last Friday.
The woman, Fedila Elic, of barangay Bulacao, was found with a shoe lace tied around her neck and attached to a baluster in the kitchen of her house. Elic’s son, Mark Anthony, found his mother past 8 p.m. when he arrived home from work.
Mark said he had to forcibly open the main door because it was reportedly locked when he arrived. Upon seeing the lifeless body of her mother, he immediately cut the shoe lace, laid her on the bed, and sought help from their neighbors.
The police arrived in the house with the shoelace still around Elic’s neck and blood still dripping from her mouth.
PO1 Lou Pagara of the homicide police said Elic reportedly suffered from nervous breakdown a few years ago and has undergone a myoma operation last 2004.
Meanwhile, shortly after Elic was found, one Romeo Cafe shot himself on the head in front his wife and house help in their house in barangay Lahug.
Investigators said the victim shot himself on the left temple using a .38 caliber pistol. Cafe’s wife, Novilyn, told homicide police that prior to the incident, she had a quarrel with their 18-year-old housemaid whom she discovered was allegedly having an affair with her husband.
Cafe then intervened, told the house help to go outside the house, and fired a shot into the air. The house help reportedly tried to intervene but Cafe told her to stay put and then and there put the gun to his head and fired. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
