CEBU - In an ocular inspection at the crime scene, a witness in the killing of lawyer Richard Sison yesterday showed prosecution and defense lawyers how she saw the gunman shortly after Sison was shot on May 21 last year.
Karen Vergara, the second witness of the prosecution, said she did not exactly witness the shooting but was able to look at suspect Limwell Sumabong eye to eye when the latter was heading towards the rear portion of Sison’s vehicle.
Vergara’s office is located right beside the Commission on Audit, across where Sison’s car stopped on a red light and where the shooting occurred.
Vergara earlier told the court she was on the phone inside her office when she heard gunshots outside. Her office, however, was blocked by a pillar, which also blocked her view of the front portion of Sison’s car.
Regional Trial Court Judge Soliver Peras ordered the ocular inspection to determine the veracity of Vergara’s testimony. The court, however, would not divulge the result of the outcome of the inspection.
Sison died of multiple gunshot wounds after a lone gunman sprayed bullets into his pickup before running towards a waiting motorcycle.
Sumabong, a security guard, was picked up by the NBI June last year after a cartographic sketch matched his general description. — Jasmin R. Uy/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
