Talisay folk and not Gullas endorsed Chiz for president

Cebu 1st District Representative Eduardo Gullas yesterday denied endorsing Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero as presidential bet in 2010.

In a news conference yesterday, Gullas, who invited Escudero as guest speaker for the 8th Talisay City Charter Day celebration, said that it was the people of Talisay who said that they want the senator to run for president and not him.

“No, I did not endorse Chiz. Actually I asked the people that I would like to get an informal survey, whether they will vote for Chiz as president and the people said yes. It was them who said yes, not me,” said Gullas.

Gullas however said that among the probable candidates for the presidency, Escudero has good chances of becoming a good president because “he is young, full of energy and can deliver.”

Gullas added that he is not endorsing Escudero as he already endorsed former Senate president Manuel Villar.

“But I told Chiz, if he wants to win, he has to make a university tour because it is where he can get a lot of votes,” the Gullas said.

Escudero was at the Gullas-owned University of Visayas the other day.

Although Gullas does not endorse Escudero for the presidency, he said that if the senator will run for vice president, it is almost a sure victory.

Gullas however clarified that he is a supporter of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and he refused to comment whether or not to support the presidential or vice presidential candidates that the President will be endorsing. – Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/NLQ   (THE FREEMAN)
