Cebu - The military’s Central Command will be on red alert on December 26 as the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army will be celebrating its anniversary on that day.
“I wish for a merrier Christmas, but we all know that the CPP-NPA is directed to intensify atrocities so I have to ask troops to prepare for any eventuality and deal with people in proper, neutral, and truthful way,” Lt. Gen. Pedro Ike Inserto, chief of the CentCom, said during CentCom’s Media Christmas Fellowship yesterday.
Inserto noted the dismantling of guerilla fronts as the biggest achievement of CentCom. For the command’s yearend report, Inserto mentioned of the “100 percent downgrading of guerilla fronts” (meaning six out of six) for the third quarter of this year.
They are expecting to dismantle three more guerilla fronts before this year ends.
Inserto added that a ceasefire will take effect on December 24 to 25 and 30 to 31, especially in the provinces of Western Samar, Oriental and Occidental Negros, and the Panay Island.
However, a ceasefire is no longer needed in Guimaras and Biliran Islands, and Siquijor, Inserto said.
The taping of nozzles of firearms is also being practiced by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, not just by the Philippine National Police, Inserto added. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot and Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
