Raps readied vs. policeman who shot in-law dead

CEBU - The Cebu Provincial Police Office has readied administrative charges for grave misconduct against PO1 Jose Dennis Malazarte, the policeman who shot his brother-in-law dead for calling him a gay and a coward earlier this month.

Cebu Provincial Director Carmelo Valmoria said the complaint will be forwarded to the Police Regional Office-7 for approval.

Likewise, Valmoria said that from the Provincial Detection and Investigative Management Bureau, the criminal charge for murder against Malazarte will be forwarded to the Summary Dismissal Board for proper disposition.

Last December 6, Malazarte shot his brother-in-law Bienvenido Alforfon out of anger after the latter allegedly called him a gay and a coward. The two were drinking at the South Bus Terminal at that time where Malazarte was also detailed.

Store cashiers Janice Palis and Minerva Pillare said Malazarte pulled out his gun after Alforfon told him “talawan ka, bayot ka.”

Malazarte shot Alforfon several times, hitting him in the left side of his chest, neck, and back. He later surrendered to PO2 Remos Goco of the Mobile Patrol Group and turned over his .38 cal. revolver, which still had two live rounds in the barrel.

Malazarte’s father-in-law, Anastacio Alforfon, said the accused and the victim had an old grudge between them.

Malazarte later told the media he is not sorry for what he did, but will face up to the consequences of his actions.

Valmoria said his office will pursue the case against Malazarte even if the complainant is no longer interested. – Bentley Naire Luyong (CIT Masscom intern) and Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
