CEBU - A case for murder was filed yesterday before the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City against a policeman who killed his brother-in-law last week.
The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office did not recommend bail for PO1 Jose Dennis Malazarte’s temporary liberty.
Malazarte was indicted over the killing of Bienvenido Alfornon in the morning of December 6 along the N. Bacalso Avenue, Barangay Sambag I.
Sidewalk vendor Rosario Quibo-Quibo, who witnessed the incident, said she saw the accused and the victim having a conversation in front of the latter’s house.
However, when Alfornon left and tried to enter the gate, he was allegedly stopped by the accused. But Alfornon persisted, prompting Malazarte to shoot him three times.
The witness said that Alfornon fell down after the first shot but the policeman allegedly finished him off by pumping two more bullets into his body.
Malazarte’s father-in-law, Anastacio Alfornon, said he was in the kitchen when he heard a burst of gunfire from outside. When he opened the gate to verify, he saw his son already dead lying on the roadside.
Anastacio said that he knew that the accused and the victim had an old conflict after Malazarte was driven out of their place two years ago because the policeman has been causing trouble in the place every time he got drunk.
Malazarte voluntarily surrendered himself to members of the Mobile Patrol Group who first rushed to the crime scene. — Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
