NBI agent yields gun after scuffle

CEBU - A gun was confiscated from a man who claimed to be a special investigator of the National Bureau of Investigation-7 after he allegedly got into trouble with three men past midnight yesterday at the Ayala Center Cebu.

Florante Gaoiran, 37, was found to be in possession of a caliber .45 firearm with magazine and seven live ammunition. He was also tested positive of liquor.

Initial investigation conducted by the Mabolo Police Station showed that at 12:30 a.m. yesterday, a trouble ensued between Gaoiran and Jimboy Villanueva, 25; Odref Alatraca, 25; and Riel Calinawan, 26, at the right wing terrace of the Lemon Grass restaurant, a tenant of the Ayala Center Cebu.

In the scuffle, Gaoiran allegedly pulled out his gun. In reaction, the three men tried to disarm him.

Ellan Alcantara, security guard on duty at the said establishment, upon seeing customers in panic responded by seizing the gun from Gaoiran.

However, during the interview at the Mabolo Police Station, both parties refused to give details on the incident after reaching a settlement.

As of this writing, the four men are still waiting for a representative from the said mall. The management of Ayala Center Cebu is determined to file a complaint against them and to ask for payment of damages. – Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/MEEV   (THE FREEMAN)
