CNU's ex-prexy is new Capitol consultant

CEBU - Former Cebu Normal University president Dr. Ester Velasquez was recently appointed as consultant on international relations of the Provincial Government.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has appointed Velasquez to help foster the sisterhood agreements of Cebu Province with the provinces of other countries.

The province has earlier created an Office for International Relations as a result of the governor’s trip to Russia. Cebu Province has entered into a sisterhood agreement with Vladimir Oblast, a highly-industrialized region of Russia.

Velasquez’s job is to follow up the actions that need to be taken specifically on cultural, business and tourism exchanges.

Aside from that, the head of the new office would also be tasked to “sustain business match-ups and strengthen ties” with the foreign countries that she had visited.

Velasquez said she is happy over her appointment, adding the job is not new to her because she already served as international office consultant for Microsoft Phils.

She is also a member of the organizing committee for events such as the International Day of Peace.

The Cebu Province has several sisterhood agreements with other provinces from different nations such as Gangwon in South Korea, Guam in USA, as well as other provinces in China and Russia, among others. —Garry B. Lao/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
