CEBU - For still unknown reasons, a 40-year-old man tried to kill himself by hanging using an electrical wire inside the comfort room of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where his daughter was confined last Monday afternoon.
If not for the timely discovery of his relatives, Noel Montera, a farmer and resident of sitio Bantolinao, barangay Baw, Sogod town could have been dead now.
Initial investigation revealed that Noel was one of those taking care of his daughter who was confined at VSMMC due to stab wound she sustained when a man attempted to rape her.
Around 2:30 p.m., Noel allegedly asked permission to enter the comfort room of Malnutrition Ward 7.
Moments later, Noel’s uncle, Samuel Montera, 51, and his sister-in-law, Rosalinda Montera, 37, were worried when Noel did not come out of the comfort room that made them decide to open its door and check.
However, they were shocked when they saw Noel sitting unconscious with an electrical wire tied around his neck with its other end tied in the ceiling.
The informants claimed they immediately removed the electrical wire from Noel’s neck and called the assistance of the hospital employees.
The victim sustained ligature mark around his neck and is now confined for treatment at VSMMC.
In a separate incident, jealousy triggered a 37-year-old man to shoot himself to death early morning of Monday in sitio Katugasan, barangay Perrelos, Carcar City.
Ceferino Rolando allegedly committed suicide by shooting his head using a “paltik” caliber .357 magnum revolver after allegedly learning that his live in partner, Hershey Mae Cañales, 19, has another lover.
