CEBU - The Cebu City government is now negotiating with Young Builders for the completion of the multi-million ramp at the Carbon Public Market after W.T. Construction backed out from the project.
W.T. Construction won the bidding in 2004 for the ramp, which would serve as a flyover and rooftop parking, but the escalating prices of construction materials had prompted the construction firm to give up the project.
The city government was also left with no choice but to rescind the contract with WT Construction but asked the firm to return the P20 million cash advance it received from the city.
This time around, the city is trying its luck with Young Builders so that the project would push through, albeit Osmeña remains mum as to the source of funds for it after the Commission on Audit found the disbursement of the P20 million cash advance illegal.
When the city contracted the services of W.T. Construction in 2004, the project was pegged at P134,500,000.
The ramp would cover the stretch from F. Escaño to F. Gonzales Streets. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
