Drugstore owner shot in Consolacion robbery

CEBU - A businessman was shot and wounded by a robber who took away a bag reportedly containing cash worth P100,000 around 9 p.m. last Monday at the New Public Market in Consolacion town.

The victim who was shot in his chest was identified as Filomeno Lumapas, 56, a resident of Mandaue City and the owner of Bing’s Pharmacy located at the town’s new public market.

SPO2 Rizalino Aligno of Consolacion police, in his investigation, said that the victim, together with his wife Gabriela, were on their way home after closing their establishment when a red motorcycle stopped before them.

One of the two men disembarked from the vehicle, headed towards Gabriela, aimed a firearm at her, and grabbed from her the bag containing the whole-day income of the drugstore. The companion of the robber served as lookout.

Filomeno consequently struggled against the suspect to get the bag back, but he was shot twice and eventually fell on the road.

He was again shot by the robber before fleeing the area.

As of yesterday, the victim is still confined at a private hospital in the city while the police are conducting a follow-up investigation into the incident. - Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
