CEBU - An American national is facing criminal complaint before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office for allegedly hitting and trying to kill a man in San Remegio.
Carlos Noynay, 62, of sitio Biasong, Maño, San Remegio accused American Mel Hickman of trying to kill him in the midnight of August 27 while he tried to pacify his son whom the suspect allegedly had an argument with.
Noynay said Hickman struck him with a piece of wood and strangled him until he lost his consciousness.
According to Noynay, the incident stemmed from Hickman’s argument with his son, Dongdong. Noynay said he was sleeping then when loud voices outside woke him and his wife up.
Noynay said he saw his son shouting at Hickman, prompting him to pacify the latter. However, while trying to lead his son inside the house, Hickman allegedly grabbed a piece of wood and hit him several times from behind until he fell on the ground.
Noynay sought the assistance of the police who helped him prepare the complaint against the suspect. – Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
