Man who attacked wife, mother faces charges

A man is facing two charges of frustrated parricide for trying to kill his wife and 62-year-old mother in barangay Punta Princesa last Monday.

Cebu City Prosecutor Nicolas Sellon approved the indictment of Franklin Lopez Echavez, Jr. for two counts of frustrated parricide before the Regional Trial Court where he was ordered to pay P200,000 bail for each count.

Coming home drunk, Echavez, 40, allegedly stabbed his wife, Miraluna, first before stabbing his mother, Gloria, who came to pacify him.

The suspect came home drunk shortly before midnight last Monday that resulted to an argument between him and his wife. But at the height of their verbal tussle, the accused allegedly attacked his wife using a knife.

One of the couple’s children, Mikhail Vynce, 18, said he was awakened by his mother’s shouting for help.

Mikhail said he immediately went out of the room and saw his bloodied mother and grandmother while his father was still holding the kitchen knife.

Mikhail said he kicked his father causing him to fall, allowing his mother and his grandmother to escape. However, the accused allegedly stood up and tried to pursue the victims, prompting him to strike his father’s head using a steel chair.  — Fred P. Languido/WAB
