A 65-year-old moneylender in Barili town was reportedly robbed and raped last Sunday evening.
SPO1 Zaldy Orillo identified the victim as Anastasia Caramihan of barangay Veto, Barili who was allegedly raped before he was killed by the perpetrator who was already identified.
However, Orillo refused to divulge the name of the suspect so as not to jeopardize their operations.
According to Orillo, Caramihan earlier that day informed Santos Siaton, her 84-year-old common-law husband, she would be heading for the neighboring barangay of Cabcaban to check on their piece of land.
Siaton said he noticed that Caramihan arrived past 11 that night.
When he peeped through the window, he saw Caramihan with a companion. But instead of going inside their house, the two vanished in the darkness, he said.
He only learned the next day that Caramihan’s body was found naked on a grassy area around 50 meters from their house.
Policemen found several bruises all over her body, her head believed to be smashed by a huge stone.
Results from an autopsy conducted by the medico-legal officer in Barili town revealed that Caramihan was positively raped because of the presence of semen in her reproductive organ.
Siaton confirmed that Caramihan had with her an undetermined amount of money that day as she was also about to attend to the renewal of loans of her clients. — Ferliza Contratista with a report from from Darrel Carrumba of BANAT News/MEEV
