A 71-year-old man was killed on the spot after he was ran over by a 10-wheeler truck in barangay Tejero, Cebu City shortly before noon yesterday.
Investigation conducted by the City Traffic Operations Management revealed that the victim, Tereso Cabahug, a resident of barangay Babag Luz, Lapu-Lapu City was crossing the street when he was suddenly hit by the truck bearing plate numbers RBN-295 driven by Jason Fernandez.
SPO1 Dionecio Gallos aid Fernandez denied he was speeding the reason why he failed to notice the victim crossing. Fernandez also claimed he tried to avoid the victim but he lost control of the truck.
Investigations revealed that the victim’s body was stuck under the truck’s engine and was dragged for about three meters, severely disfiguring his body.
According to Gallo, they contacted the telephone numbers indicated in Cabahug’s senior citizen’s card but the persons who answered the phone allegedly do not recognize him.
Gallo also said their office has not yet received any feedback on who could possibly be relatives of the victim, whose remains now lie at the St. Francis Funeral Homes.
The traffic investigator said they are still waiting for the relatives of Cabahug to surface and file a case against Fernandez, who is now detained at CITOM investigation office following his surrender. — Cressida Paula G. Delmo/WAB
