Crowd stones policemen for “planting” evidence

An angry crowd stoned a group of policemen from the San Nicolas Police Station after the law enforcers arrested a man for gun possession in sitio Lawis, barangay Pasil Wednesday evening.

Reports had it that the crowd believed the police themselves planted the firearm seized from Giovanni Aban, also a resident of the barangay.   The stoning started just as the police placed the handcuff on Aban whom they insisted was walking with the firearm that night they were patrolling the area.

Seized from Aban was an unlicensed .22 caliber magnum revolver with four live .22 magnum bullets. Aban allegedly failed to show documents to justify the possession.

Luckily, no one from the authorities was hit in the stoning, as they immediately took cover and team leader PO1 Marvin Sanson immediately fired a warning shot to ward off the mob.

The crowd subsequently calmed down after hearing the warning shot. — Edwin Ian Melecio/JMO
