A councilman of barangay Sabang, Sibonga, who is also a retired chief of police of Boljoon, was shot and stabbed in barangay Mangyan, Sibonga on Wednesday afternoon after a heated argument with his attacker.
The victim, Cerilo Regidor, sustained a gunshot wound in his stomach and stab wounds in his arms. Tanods and passersby rushed him to a medical clinic nearby but was later transferred to South General Hospital in Naga City.
His suspected attacker, identified as Benito Trongco, 65, was later arrested and is now detained at the Carcar City Police station.
Sibonga policeman, PO2 Ederlino Bacusmo, said that the two had an argument first before they fought violently. “Panaglalis lang gyud. Naglalis ni sila didto sa Taboan (market),” he told The FREEMAN.
After engaging in a fistfight, Regidor tried to stay away by leaving to his sister’s house but Trongco allegedly pursued him. “Nidagan ni siya (Regidor) sa balay sa iya igsoon pero nasundan sa suspect,” Bacusmo said.
Upon entering the gate of his sister’s house, the suspect shot Regidor with an improvised shotgun, hitting him on his stomach. The wounded victim was able to grab the gun from Trongco but the latter pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Regidor’s arm many times. — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/RAE
