A 45-year-old man was shot dead by an unidentified man armed with an armalite rifle in barangay Bae, Sibonga town last Saturday night.
SPO1 Ramuel Banugon of the Sibonga Police Station said the victim, Mario Carillo, was taking his carabao home from pasture around 8:30 p.m. when the assailant blocked his way and shot him dead.
More than 20 empty shells of 5.56mm rounds were recovered from the crime scene.
Banugon said the victim was once convicted of a killing in barangay Apo, Argao town, and was freed from prison just last year.
According to Banugon, the investigating team is eyeing two possible angles into the murder: one is the involvement of the victim in petty crimes such as stealing his neighbor’s farm animals while the other is possible revenge for the barangay Apo killing.
“Bisan ang kapitan mismo mao’y nitumbok nga manghilabot og mga kahayopan sama sa manok og kanding ang biktima. Pangawaton og pamutlan pa og ulo,” Banugon said.
The body of the victim is now at the Tupas Funeral Homes in Carcar City. — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/BRP
