Man dies in road mishap

If you are wearing a black shirt, be very careful when you cross the road when its dark.

This lesson might be too late though for a man, who died after he was hit by a taxicab while crossing corner Legaspi and Burgos streets in the downtown area at early dawn yesterday.

Traffic Enforcer Manuel Tagaan of the Traffic Group of Cebu City Police Office identified the fatality as Matias Pugoy, of legal age and a resident of the said area.

The taxi was driven by Gabrillo Carmelitos, 40 years old, and a resident of Carcar City.

He told the police that he was very surprised to see a man in front of his vehicle and could not anymore steer the car away from the victim.

Carmelitos rushed the victim to the Cebu City Medical, but the latter was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver immediately surrendered to the responding policemen and is now temporarily detained at the Traffic Group detention cell while the police prepare the charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against him.

Police said, the owner of the taxi, a certain Marlo Chan assured the family of the victim of financial help. – Rizzi Ann Cerera, UP-Tacloban Communication Arts Intern/NLQ
