3 men maul brgy capt during benefit dance

The barangay captain of Mabunao, Tabuelan was reportedly mauled by three men after one of them was nabbed for possessing a bladed weapon at a benefit dance Friday night.

Barangay captain Felix Ruben was reported mauled by two of the suspects, Jury Caballero, 20, and Rolando Purisima, 37, after their companion Renato Punay, 38, was collared for possession a 9-inch bladed weapon when he was about to enter the dance hall.

Punay reportedly resisted when Ruben was about to arrest him. A heated argument ensued, prompting Caballero and Purisima to intervene but it resulted instead to the mauling of the barangay captain.

“The two are conspiring and helping one another to box the barangay captain,” said a police report reaching the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Mabunao barangay chief tanod Romeo Dungog and other tanods came to rescue Ruben that resulted to the arrest of the three suspects who were reportedly drunk during that time.

Caballero and Purisima are residents of barangay Kanlim-ao, Tabuelan while Punay resides in Tapilon in Daanbantayan.

The three suspects are now detained at the Tabuelan Police Station.

Punay will be charged for illegal possession of deadly weapon. Purisima and Caballero will face with direct assault upon person of authority together with Punay.    Garry B. Lao/LPM
