More young actors included in “Buhing Kalbaryo” play

To give young people the opportunity to showcase their talents, organizers of this year’s “Buhing Kalbaryo” have decided to tap more young actors for the annual Lenten play, some of them even landing on major characters.

“This fervor this year is different because some of the major roles are handled by young people,” said “Buhing Kalbaryo” director Al Evangelio.

Evangelio said they have decided to tap more young talents so that the evangelism of “Buhing Kalbaryo” will be passed on to younger generations. After all, Evangelio said, many of those who have taken part in the play since it started 10 years ago have already come of age.

Major characters like Peter, Judas, and other Jesus’ apostles will be played by young and neophyte performers.

While admitting that preparations haven’t reached their peak, Evangelio assured that this year’s “Buhing Kalbaryo” will not fall short of what the Cebuanos have come to expect every year.

“Despite the odds, despite the conflict, padayon ang ‘Buhing Kalbaryo’… a lot of miracles can happen,” Evangelio said.

The yearly depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ will be portrayed in three parts on Good Friday, March 21, starting at 11a.m. with the Passion of the Lord at the Cebu Coliseum.

Thereafter, a reenactment of the Station of the Cross will follow traversing Natalio Balcalso Avenue up to the Guadalupe Church where the scene of the Seven Last Words will be dramatized. — Joeberth M. Ocao/LPM\
