A worker at Cebu City Councilor Yayoy Alcoseba’s restaurant was found dead in sitio Upper Cantipla in barangay Sudlon II Monday evening and police believed he was a victim of extrajudicial killing.
The victim was identified by his relatives as Rodel Lucero, 20, a native of San Francisco town.
Lucero, who works as stay-in waiter at Yayoy’s Grill House, bore a gunshot wound to his head when his body was found along the road in sitio Upper Cantipla.
Police Investigation showed that the victim was apparently shot in the back of his head with the use of a .45 caliber pistol, with the bullet exited through the left side of his forehead.
SPO1 Jay Yballe of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office said prior to the discovery of Lucero’s body, residents in the area reportedly heard a burst of gunfire.
Moments later, a certain Desiderio Habonita, who was passing by the area, saw the victim’s body lying along the road and immediately reported it to the barangay officials.
Sudlon II barangay captain Presillo Albores and Tabunan barangay tanod Romeo Seguerra, who rushed to the area, said no one saw any perpetrator.
Police believed that the victim was brought to the area where he was shot, but they have yet to determine the motive of the shooting.
Homicide investigators recovered a wallet from the victim’s pocket containing several pictures, his Philhealth card and two pay slips.
The victim’s friends told investigators yesterday that they last saw the victim alive leaving the restaurant after his work.
The victim was said to be meeting a woman from Minglanilla and was planning to accompany her to her house after learning that she was afraid to go home. - Edwin Ian Melecio/LPM
