Policemen arrested two men who held up a woman on M.J. Cuenco Avenue while tanods arrested another man who held up a woman in barangay Tisay Saturday evening.
In the first incident, the arrested suspects were Michael Abenoja, 21, of Arellano Boulevard at barangay San Roque, and Rolly Juvsano, 21, of Palma Street at barangay San Roque.
Waterfront Police Station operatives PO3 Reynold Malazarte, PO2 Leonard Dinsay, and PO1 Jodan Batucan caught the two suspects while allegedly robbing at gunpoint 18-year-old Aileen Tuñacao, who was waiting for a ride home to Mandaue City.
Reports said that the robbers had already taken Tuñacao’s bag containing a cellphone, an MP4 player, and P300 cash when they saw the patrolling policemen coming. This prompted the suspects to run away from the scene.
The policemen gave chase and, shortly after, Mobile Patrol Group members SPO1 Desiderio Mendaros, PO3 Roy Jaime and others arrived to help, resulting in the arrest of the suspects who were already near their residence. Police recovered the victim’s cell phone and MP4 but not her cash.
In sitio Tana in barangay Tisa, responding tanods arrested 18-year-old Ringo Rodriguez, a resident of the place, moments after he allegedly held up at knife point 25-year-old Neriza Bacayan.
Bacayan, a resident of San Jose Village, said she was walking near San Lorenzo Church when Rodriguez approached her and declared a hold-up. For fear of getting stabbed, she gave to the suspect her clutch bag containing her cell phone, identification cards, and documents.
After the arrest, the tanods recovered from Rodriguez the victim’s bag and turned over the suspect to the Cebu City Police Office Theft and Robbery Section. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
