A businessman in Daanbantayan town lost at least P138,000 to his former houseboy who reportedly broke into his house in barangay Poblacion and fled with the cash.
Businessman Rumolo Arreglo, who resides along Malinao Street, went to the Daanbantayan Police Station around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday to report the incident.
Arreglo told police that he and his family left for Cebu on January 19 to watch the Sinulog. Upon their return, the victim said they were shocked to see their table inside their room was already destroyed.
He said upon checking further, they discovered that their cash amounting to P138,000 placed inside a drawer of the table was missing.
SPO4 Melchor Batucan, SPO2 Cesar Alburo and PO1 Dario Cuyoca immediately conducted an investigation into the incident and invited a certain Pablitoc Abante, the former errand of the victim.
Upon interrogation, Abante admitted to the crime, saying he gained entry into the house last Sunday at 3:00 a.m. through the unlocked door at the back. Abante said he destroyed the padlock of the table and took the money.
“Na-recover ang P81,000 didto sa kalibonan nga gihimong pansayan lakip na ang P24,000 sa balay ni Pablitoc,” Cuyoca said.
Abante, who told police that he already spent the rest of the money, said he barged into Arreglo’s house after noticing that no one was around. — Garry B. Lao/LPM
