A 22-year-old man shot himself dead inside the stockroom of the house owned by his aunt just hours before his graduation from college last Saturday.
Homicide investigators identified the fatality as Marvin Roy Bagcat, a resident of the area, who just finished his engineering course and was set to graduate with other students that same day.
But instead of going to his graduation, he was found dead inside the stockroom at the second floor of the house of his aunt Eva Cañete, 40, in barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
According to SPO2 Jay Yballe, Cañete said she and her children along with their helper were at the ground floor when they heard a gunshot from the second floor, prompting them to go up and check.
When they opened the stockroom they found Bagcat already lying on his back with a gunshot wound in the left side of his chest. They then called up the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation for help but Bagcat was no longer responsive.
Investigators found a homemade .38 cal. revolver with one empty shell and a live bullet in its cylinder.
Police learned from his aunt that a few months ago, Bagcat and his girlfriend had broke up. When he tried to patch their differences the girl refused to hear his pleadings. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
