The Department of Education revitalizes the Girls Scouts of the Philippines movement because of the latter's effective formation of values and leadership skills among children.
The main objective of the GSP movement is consistent with DepEd's mission to enhance, support and develop girls and young women into well-rounded individuals with exemplary character.
Because of its impressive track record, DepEd has recognized GSP as one of its partners in the holistic development of each young girl and women into responsible and productive citizens of the country.
In a memorandum, DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus expressed how DepEd believes in the mission and tenets of the GSP, which is why the movement has been recognized as one of its partners.
Because of this, DepEd has promoted membership among its students to the GSP and has urged schools to encourage their students to join GSP.
"All public and private elementary and secondary schools are encouraged to promote membership to the GSP among all pupils and students including parents and teachers at the start of the school year," Lapus said.
However, Lapus reminded that collection of fees should not be made as a requirement for enrollment of the students.
Payment of membership fee to the GSP in the amount of P40 may be collected anytime during the enrollment period provided that students have already enrolled.
Moreover, payment of this fee is voluntary and should not be made as a requirement for admission and enrollment, as well as for the clearance or transfer of students to other schools," he added. - Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV
