The Cebu-Citizens Involvement and Maturation in People Empowerment and Liberation (C-Cimpel) should be appreciated and commended for its work in the last May 14 elections.
This was the proposal of reelected Provincial Board member Victor Maambong in his resolution acknowledging C-Cimpel's conduct of quick count and help in ensuring the election fair and credible.
"C-Cimpel has successfully discharged its mission to render a credible, fast, accurate and efficient counting and tabulation of votes...prevented voters disenfranchisement, cheating and tampering of votes, vote buying, and other violations of election laws," Maambong said in his proposed measure.
Maambong said the voluntary service of C-Cimpel, including the putting up of voters' assistance centers in every polling place and poll watching, has been outstanding and exemplary that it deserves commendation.
"C-Cimpel volunteers, our unsung heroes whose selfless sacrifice, exemplary dedication and perseverance served as the beacon of light in the conduct of an honest, orderly, peaceful, credible elections," he said further.
C-Cimpel, headed by Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, is the Comelec's accredited citizen's arm as Cebu's affiliate of the National Movement for Free Elections or Namfrel.
It served as the election watchdog and had been conducting quick counting of votes since 1992. It had at least 200,000 volunteers for the last elections, coming from academe, the church, the professionals, and the masses. - Garry B. Lao/RAE
