In his letter request, Calderon reported about the arrival in his town of 11 armed men who were believed to be members of the Alex Bongcayao Brigade of the New People''s Army.
Calderon alleged that these armed men were hired by political opponents and had already started harassing some residents of the town''s barangays.
Provincial police director, Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria, on the other hand, said his office is still verifying such report and he already coordinated with the Regional Mobile Group-7 for possible deployment of more policemen to Samboan or the entire second district.
Valmoria said that, even without the report, there is still a need for additional forces in the area to secure some vital installations in the district, which is cited as a strategic area considering that its coastal towns are access points to and from Negros Oriental province.
Residents in the district however have nothing to worry about because RMG policemen will be sent to secure the area and that a district supervisor will head the conduct of patrol duties there during the elections, Valmoria assured them. -Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
