Popcom forms new parenting movement

Committed to implement the government’s campaign to have a healthy, productive and empowered citizenry, the Commission on Population has organized a province-wide Responsible Parenting Movement to formulate and carry out an aggressive and systematic strategy to promote responsible parenting and natural family planning.

The movement aims at making couples aware of their basic responsibilities as parents by awakening in them a sense of responsibility and commitment towards their family, neighbors, community, society and nation as a whole, instilling in them to consider responsible parenting as a way of life towards the attainment of sustainable human development.

The group will be composed of Barangay Health Workers and other community-based volunteers, Natural Family Planning teachers-users, and members of church-based organizations and people’s organizations.

The BRPMG will then recruit at least 10 married couples to form one RPM class. The couples must be of child-bearing age who want to practice birth spacing through the method.

The RPM is in response to the directive of the President for the Department of Health (DOH) and Popcom to involve at least 4.2 million couples in the Responsible Parenting Movement within the period 2007 to 2010. — Jasmin R. Uy/BRP
